Today we took a field trip to the third-grade wing, where Mrs. Vita-Taylor's class welcomed us to their ancient Egyptian marketplace. We heard presentations from farmers, scribes, mummy makers, beer makers, and more. A sneak peek into third grade!

We began our math unit on measurement by reading a story called How Big Is A Foot?, in which a king orders a bed to be constructed based on measurements in feet -- his own feet. The young building apprentice constructs the bed by measuring with his own small feet. Following this introduction to the importance of standard measuring units, students cut out paper feet that are exactly 12 inches long and used them to measure various objects around the classroom. In their enthusiasm, several students measured the length of the second-grade hall!
